Community Lunch Program
The Salvation Army serves a free lunch Monday - Friday from 12:00 - 1:00 PM. Lunches are available as "to-go" lunches at alley entrance.

Housing Resources
People facing a housing crisis can contact the Salvation Army for triage and assessment, short-term shelter vouchers, and rapid re-housing services. Call or stop by to speak with a case manager who will assess the specific needs of the individual in crisis and direct that person to the appropriate resources. Some of the resources available include short-term shelter vouchers, strengths-based case management, access to a variety of housing remedies, SOAR services for the chronically homeless, counseling, advocacy, and referrals as appropriate.
Pantry (Alley Entrance)
Salvation Army's walk-through food pantry is available to households once every 30 days. This service is available on Tuesdays 10:00 AM -12:00 AM and from 1:00 - 4:30 PM. Kankakee County households. Photo ID required.
Pathway of Hope
The Pathway of Hope initiative provides individualized services to families with children who desire to take action to break the cycle of crisis and vulnerability that repeats generation after generation. It seeks to address the root causes of poverty in addition to The Army's history of compassionate serving. By helping families overcome challenges like unemployment, unstable housing, and lack of education, the Salvation Army team can lead families down a path toward increased stability and, ultimately, self-sufficiency.
Personal Hygiene
A small closet is available with toiletry items, kitchen items, women's sanitary items, baby supplies while supplies last.
Tax Form Preparation
The Salvation Army at 148 N. Harrison, Kankakee, IL offers free help with tax preparation to individuals earning generally less than $57,000 annually. Help is available during the regular tax season. Taxpayers must bring a photo ID, copies of W-2s and 1098 and 1099 forms, Social Security numbers for all their dependents, and ideally a copy of last year's return. Register online for the 2022 tax preparation season - open until April 15.To make an appointment call (815)-933-8421 ext. 1107 or come in.
Utility Assistance
Assistance with Nicor Gas and Aqua Illinois Water utilities can be arranged for qualifying applicants. Gas applicants must first apply for LIHEAP.
Volunteer Development
Volunteers are appreciated to assist with serving meals, food pantry, seasonal help, office help, janitorial help, or canteen emergency disaster relief help. Opportunities are arranged to fit schedules and interests. Volunteer ministry provides opportunities for individuals and groups to volunteer their time and talents.
