Services
Citizen Police Academy
Kankakee offers the Citizen Police Academy to residents of all ages. Academies are also geared toward specific interest groups (seniors, Spanish-speaking, and teen police). These academies are focused on the groups' specific needs. The academies teach why police do what they do. The academies are usually held off-site with the locations to be announced.
Nuisance Abatement
Kankakee Ordinance and State Law allow or have provided methods of removing nuisances from all properties within the city to preserve public peace and integrity of the community.
Police Department
Currently, the department stands at a strength of 67 sworn officers; 8 investigations; 2 in KMEG (Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group) and 4 Problem Oriented Policing Unit. In addition, the Kankakee Police employ 7 civilian employees. These jobs include records, technology, and community service.
Public Awareness & Education
Active programs include: D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), Teen Police Academy, Hispanic Police Academy, Senior Police Academy, and the Citizens Observer program.
